We are world's most populous country, we should be using it for our advantage by producing world calls players. Imagine the soft power that the country will earn when the players do well!
Paris Olympics is an epic fail. They have given the athletes beds made of cardboard to sleep in. uncooked food and generally extremely poor resources.
Even otherwise, the electricity outages, announcing South Korea as North Korea, and numerous other things have led to #boycottOlympics trending. Please read.

Secondly, remember the CWG-Kalmadi scam. Yes it was during congress, but my point is that this is the basic mentality of any Indians in power and nothing can change that.
Olympics in India will be a huge disaster.
Also, part of the city can be pretty unclean, so your "foreign visitors" may not be all that surprised or put off. In the same trip where I had the bad experience with the train, I was staying at a hotel near the Porte d’Orléans. I am blind and use a white cane. My mother, who was accompanying me, told me when we came out of the metro station to fold up my white cane, allow her to keep it in her bag, allow her to (fully) sighted-guide me and, crucially, to not step too far to either side of the pavement at a certain point, as it was full of dog excrement.

Then there is the issue of costs. Can we host such expensive events when our per capita income is so low and poverty is so widespread, thanks to illiteracy and overpopulation? You also of course have the problem of corruption as well. If 1,000 crores is allocated more than half will go into the pockets of politicians and bureaucrats.
Finally, the opening ceremony needs imaginative ideas like the balloon lighting, horse floating etc. we don’t have such creativity. We can only manage cringe Bollywood stuff.
So I feel Modi is making a big mistake in trying to bid for the Olympics!
