As to the process to become AP, finish your PhD ASAP. Ideally, don't take up jobs before third year of PhD. And publish in SCOPUS journals. Yes, there are too many people and too little vacancies and wherever you apply, people with PhD and Scopus publications are applying.
Very disillusioned with academia. People fresh out of LLM are being hired as APs in tier 1 NLU and I'm not even being considered for shitty private colleges. Everytime I open LinkedIn, I feel like taking Sanyas and becoming a Buddhist monk- if only I had the calibre for that.
