To the one who posted this and the first response, cut down the condescension and understand where people working in chambers are coming from. Yes, it's unfortunate that litigation lawyers are still being grossly underpaid. But a lot of people are willing to put up with it because that's where you truly learn litigation. It's not that people in chambers are inherently dumber than those in tier 1s, it's a question of long term goals and priorities. Working in a chambers is an excellent way to gain immense exposure, both in terms of understanding court craft and also in terms of learning how a chambers functions. The things you learn at a chambers will definitely put you on track to take up independent practice. If you need any more convincing, ask yourself how much senior advocates and even junior counsels make by arguing matters. Even partners at tier 1 law firms will bend over backwards in respect for counsels, even if they're on the younger side, because that's the value they bring to the table when matters have to be argued. In short, it's a matter of priorities, not everyone's just in it for the big bucks straight after law school.

i understand if u were a fresher who couldnt land a job at a law firm but ive seen far too many people who spend years getting underpaid at chambers, why so? why not switch to a law firm and increase your pay? they say that in the long-term if you build your own clients you'll earn more but isnt that too big a risk to take for very little reward? people obviously cant be that stupid, or are they?
