Wanted to become a CSE. Got fucked over by chemistry. Opted for commerce. Wanted to become a Chartered Accountant. Cleared foundation within top 10 scores of my state (as per my coaching institute). Was preparing for CA inter when folks told me to sit for CLAT so I did without any prep. Got into an lower NLU (NLUO, TNNLS, NUSRL, NLUJAA). Folks drilled in the fear of low passing rate of CA course and bleak future if I could not clear it in first attempts. Join NLU, 5 year vacation, decent internships, Tier 1 PPO, currently in-house and bored out of my fkn mind.

Okay, let's get a couple of things straight. This feedback is as clear as you could possibly desire. If this isn't helpful, I would say I (and most others who have commented on here) would be unable to help you further.

1. Your messages so far seem to prima facie indicate that your ability to proofread is very poor indeed. This is a concrete skill you can work on. In order to be a good lawyer anywhere in the world, you need to be able to proofread well.

2. You won't always be given direct feedback. There might be situations where rules or regulations around feedback (academic settings in particular) stipulate that at most, a hint can be given to you about where your writing is going wrong (e.g., a dissertation supervisor being allowed to go only as far as to say, 'Are you sure every spelling on P. 15 is correct?'). Learn to take a hint. Yes, getting lambasted publicly isn't fun, but this is better than missing a hint in an actual high stakes situation.

3. Following on from no. 2, your ability to engage in self reflection is also very poor. Lack of improvement in this regard is likely to be unhelpful to you in the long term.

If I were you, I'd say this is more useful advice than some random sob story about how somebody made the choice to become a lawyer, for the above points are actual, concrete lessons you can learn in order to be considered even minimally competent in a field that shows little mercy to those who aren't.

It's the cheapest career I wanted to go for. Engineering/Med is too expensive and time-consuming, really over-saturated too. Never had an interest in commerce related fields so never thought of it. My dad wanted to be a lawyer too but never got to it so I thought I'll become one in his stead. I always thought it's the best way forward for a middle class guy like me as JEE/NEET have way too much competition, you can get into a decent law school with minimal prep in most law related entrances but as I stated earlier, non-govt engineering/med colleges are absurdly expensive so I just chose law because of the financial aspect and the fact that lawyers do have some respect in society, although it doesn't matter much to me.

Also, forgot to add, I am a pedant of the worst kind. My English Literature teacher at school used to say that one of the things she and I had in common was 'a (mental) alergic reaction to bad writing'. She was right. Pardon me, but seeing the title of your thread has, unfortunately, provoked that 'alergic reaction', which is why I humbly ask that people please write properly; at the end of the day, we are lawyers, we work in a legal system which (largely) runs on English as the primary medium of working; I don't think requesting people to avoid the use of interesting grammar is an unreasonable request. The occasional typo is fine, but this kind of error, in my book, is unpardonable.

Grew up on a diet of crime fiction (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle + all the 'Queens of Crime'). Was good at debating and public speaking as extracurricular activities at school and enjoyed them; had a reputation for performing well in English and History (did well at Maths, Physics and Chemistry too, but you wouldn't find me dead in a ditch reading in my spare time about that). Never could keep my mouth shut, loved to argue with people (drove my mother up the wall many times, in the process), was, like Hermione, (justifiably) called a 'bossy knowitall' by my mates at school, loved reading the rulebook in situations where rules were involved and arguing about interpretations of rules, how to bend them and so on; I used to, and continue to, read the newspapers every day like a religious habit (The Guardian, The London Times (especially the law section of that paper, which is fab) and the Financial Times). On top of this, wanted some money in life. Did an evaluation similar to what Dr Watson does of Holmes, his character, his strengths and weaknesses in 'A Study in Scarlet' (wrote this stuff in bullet-point form), and thought, 'which profession corresponds with most or all of this?'; the answer was law (though obviously good money doesn't necessarily come with working in the law).

Took up english grads and then left it for law school next year when my friend decided to take law. Business law attracted me from the very beginning because I would read up for hours how small businesses navigated obstacles to become the behemoths they are today.

If I could go back in time would probably again choose a career in law.

Why has this been marked trollish? The comment is absolutely correct. If you are in this profession where a major chunk of the work revolves around communication, one should be able to speak English properly. OP hasn’t even made a minor error with the past-tense that can be ignored.
