It's a peaceful place. Oldest NLU after NLS, Good faculty, good facilities, decent placement, nothing bad, nothing good. It's not in the news as there's nothing major happening. It's a decent tier 1 NLU without the noise marketing. Nowadays even decent and simple is considered bad. Also it's right in the middle of the tier1s.

I think this does warrant some serious discussion. NLIU has a myriad of problems plaguing their law school. I had an interaction with few of my batchmates, and we are not happy with the whole senior-junior hierarchy that’s existing within our realm. Ragging is rampant and how much of oiling is too much oiling?

We are not happy with the lack of foreign exposure. It’s like our batch is collectively prone to being domesticated in Indian law firms and they are even happy with a 11 LPA package from Indus, not realising that their counterparts from certain other tier-1s are getting paid much more with a lower grade. Foreign law firms aren’t particularly fond of our college based on previous experiences of underwhelming candidates being sent to A&O/Linklaters.

A rusty domicile crowd is a huge problem which in fact generates the worst possible problems for our uni. The admin is even fed up of their tantrums producing antics left and right.

We may not have a protest going on, we may not have serious allegations against our admin, but the issues are there. It’s high time we fill this ‘void’. It’s making us feel really left out.

Then stop complaining here and do something about it. Why is everyone all talk and no action? Are you afraid of doing the dirty ground work ? Why can't you contact alumni in better places and try to coordinate something than coming here and cribbing about the deplorable state of things. Seriously, no wonder you guys can't move shit in the legal world when all you do is yap around.

Sneaky of you to put MNLU in their. If we divide tier 1 into categories. Then...

Cat A...NLS, NLUD, NALSAR, NUJS

Cat B...GNLU, NLUJ, NLIU

So there's nothing wrong with it. It's just not the top three or four NLU. However that doesn't mean it's bad. It's much better then the other 20-odd NLUs.

NLIU used to be a top law school, but lost out as younger NLUs and Jindal came up. Suddenly, the competition for good placements became more intense. Suddenly, other law schools started excelling at moots. Then you had a very corrupt admin and political apathy on the part of both BJP and Congress governments. One corrupt VC was booted out after student protests, but the damage he did still affects the college. On top of that, an NLU was needlessly established in Jabalpur, which ate up funds worth several crores that could otherwise have been used for NLIU. Thus, it’s been a state of sad decline for NLIU. Honestly, the only thing that can save the college now is NLU nationalisation. It’s high time NLU students across India unite around this.

They do not have a PR team!!! you can easily end up with a corporate Job if you join and perform decently, Most of the T1 firms that come for recruitment send alums and that is why you will see, they have a decent placement record. For Ex - CAM sent RC this year and there are around 12+ offers, Trilegal did not go to many places but YS heads corp practice north, so it took one call. overall the biggest advantage is the big alumni base. People say it is degrading which is somewhat fair because they do not get funds from the state govt, so no PR, few guest lectures, and no good visiting faculty, and Professors are not research-oriented. The batches are fairly competitive so enough stimulation for an individual to excel.
