We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

You can't go through life as a whiney!
Be nice, do your work and it will be okay.
Learn to ignore what people think or say, they don't think as much as they say.
Other faculty- every time you write a thing you will find people who will criticise , other faculty , people at a conference , reviews- they might say nice things but they might also say mean things. If you canβt handle that - it just might not be for you. The whole process of publishing in peer reviewed journals is an exercise in humbling people - you gotta have a thick skin to deal.
I suggest you try and become in-house counsel- those guys earn their living by quietly doing their work or by having good relationships with other lawyers.
Try in-house counsel role before entering academia.
Just a piece of advice: people will be mean in academia too. In the meantime, keep your professional life apart from personal life don't let anyone whom your working professionally, to define you personally. Don't think too much. Learn to let go. My gf is like you only. Her emotional nature doesn't get in my way of loving her even more everyday. Infact, her emotional nature is responsible for 10 yrs of my relationship. Being reasonably emotional might not help in professional life but it does in personal life. You'll have empathy and respect.
Following tips might help you:
1. Interact with as many people as possible.
2. Don't look for validation outside especially at work place. Validation is only req from close friends and family. Work people can shove validation up their asses.
3. The way you look is just fine. Anyone saying otherwise either has small **** or ****. Don't give rats ass about them.
4. Try and laugh when someone makes fun of you. It'd okay if it's not personal.
5. If you did something bad and someone's scolding, keep repeating in your mind that you won't let it happen again and say sorry. Don't say "how could I let this happen". Even shardul Shroff and Harish salve commit mistakes. It is absolutely fine. Committing mistakes is overrated. Get over it, there's life beyond the person who's scolding and the mistakes you committed.
You'll do just fine. Have faith in yourself. Only you can stand up for yourself and it better be you than me or someone else.
Just to clarify, I donβt think I have a personality disorder or such. I do get hurt easily, but I overcome it after a couple of days, especially if I switch my mind off and play computer games or go to the gym, or hang out with friends. So, in my view itβs not chronic depression, just temporary depression and sadness. Just that I am perhaps more thin skinned than the average person.
