How Indian a phenomenon this is. Come on people, if you ever go international, you'll see that people at law schools overseas (including the big names) aren't as insecure about themselves, don't need their egos boosted, find these organ-measuring contests to be a waste of time and energy, take themselves (and their law schools) much less seriously, are happy to shitpost about their law schools (and even exagerate those law schools' vices/faults/issues for the sake of comic relief/satire) and generally aren't as full of themselves. If LI is to be taken as a microcasm of the Indian law student community, we need to be seriously concerned. The ones who need to take charge of changing the culture, on LI if nowhere else, are the LI mods. They should come up with a day (maybe once a week, to have this properly become a thing) where students, who are willing to identify their law school, shitpost about their law school, just for fun. There should be a policy encouraging such deliberate (but crucially harmless, and not reputation-damaging) shitposting, and one that discourages this bating culture to start organ-measuring contests. Come on guys, please just engage in some self-reflection. As someone who has lived in Britain for some considerable time and had exposure to the culture of one of their top law schools (the type that isn't quite Oxford or Cambridge, but whose administrations think it should be), I can tell you that your average T1 UK law student (whether she's a Brit or not), if she were to come look at these threads, would give a verdict that you guys seriously need some work on personal insecurities/inferiority complexes. If you sincerely, with your hands on your hearts, believe that a just ranking system would tie up Harvard and NLSIU in the first place and Yale and NUJS in the second, one way you can start acting accordingly is by having the ability to laugh at yourselves and at your institutions. And it's not like you can't do this. There was a superb thread a while ago making jokes about NLS (like if an NLS student was in a moot and got a phone call, the moot would be stopped until the phone call was at an end). Let that sort of thing be the defining image of LI, not this rediculous ego-massaging. Please.

A concluding anecdote: (please don't mark trollish). A few years ago, there was a story about Lord Cameron (the former British PM and current Foreign Secretary) that when he was at Oxford, he joined a student club which had one of those strange initiation rituals, this one involving the new male person joining shoving a private body part into the mouth of a dead pig. When I asked a (Oxford graduate) friend a few weeks later what he'd be doing over the weekend, his reply was, 'I'll be going to visit my uni, you know the one which has a student society where the requirement to join is that you can shove your cock in a pig's mouth'.

With each university’s students being at each others throats and butting into unrelated competitions just to brag about their universities being “far ahead” each other, it is long overdue that we have a thorough analysis of this issue.

To the students of each university, please write a compelling argument (with categorical divisions) on why you believe that your university is ahead in light of recent achievements or developments.
