earlier, and he shall not be eligible for re-appointment;
Provided that notwithstanding the expiry of the said period of five years, he/she shall continue

SJA needs some serious evidence. Cannot be wishy washy and half cooked stuff by vindictive faculty factions. Their politics will intensify in the coming days. SJA should talk to their predecessors especially the ones leading the charge against a well entrenched PIB and Co. Don't bother the ones from 2019-20 (coincidentally when NKC took over)
What's the update on the WP lodged by the A/P alleging state inaction that is before the bench of Justice Jay Sengupta?
Even such old people know that the present VC is so bad!
CJI is happy to give a woke judgement where he says men can get pregnant too, but is silent when law students raise concerns about gender rights and the VC faces sexual harassment allegations.
My Lord, request you to intervene here. If you are scared of upsetting the liberal political establishment, may I remind you that Mamata Banerjee has effectively left the INDIA Alliance. She hasn't been attending meetings and fought against the Congress and CPIM in Bengal. Her partymen also violently attacked Congress and CPIM workers. Also, her party does not exist outside Bengal and even in the Tripura elections lost its deposit on all seats. So what are you afraid of?
P.S. Please see this video of how TMC party men are attacking poor Muslim women who support the Left. They burnt down the tailoring shop of a Muslim Left supporter, called Firoza, who is crying in the video. Hope this confirms to you that the TMC is working against the INDIA Alliance. Tis is the state of affairs in Bengal and why we need the CJI to intervene!

Looks like a student protest is the only way these guys will take notice. Same thing happened at NLSIU, during the student body protests against the TLC mafia that wanted to scuttle Sudhirβs appointment.
So a protest MUST happen!!!

Eventually this litigation may not substantially improve matters at DU Law. Entire generations of judges in SC and HC have graduated while DU Law kept sliding. But the point is no one petitioned the "Dear" Chancellor etc and self-invited a smack down.
These students marshalled data and went to court. Ofc, I am not suggesting that SJA approach Cal HC. With SS and AG around and so many others so keen to have NKC continue, Cal HC will be another site for a smackdown. Unless SJA is able to secure damning evidence of wrongdoing by NKC or those sheltered by him.
SJA later realised that Lord Taluk was an apparatchik and providing cover for rotten things to continue. So, skirmishes ensued and Taluk was let go as well. NKC came in and was ably assisted by SS, V(ee)P and SAK (on a rebound) to drive the gravy train and it is chugging great.
Their life was made jinga lala by SJA from 2019-20 onwards. It was the sanskari thing to do - always respect favours that accrue from paying obeisance to the powerful. Stay on the straight and narrow.
Even the great tauji had to retire at 70, menonji also retired at 70 and few months. So, it will be some really big favour that may tilt the balance for NKC to continue beyond 70
This was before the election results. So by Nov if NKC is rated a performing asset by the powers that be then he will be allowed second term or at least "extensions" till 2026 state elections or further if the powerful interests need him to continue.
The only way NKC goes if the SJA can objectively show that his continued stay in NUJS will generate negative returns (which does not mean negative press) on the "royalty" generated via loyalty.
I'd say wait till 20 June or so, you'll definitely see some movement.
2. Almost everyone in the GB regardless of faction politics oppose NKC.
3. It is unlikely that anyone high up in TMC cares about NUJS, or heck, even aware of its existence.
4. We cannot expect a serious reply from the CJI if "Dear Chief Justice of India" is the way how we address him.
In the end, the split in opposition votes, Muslim vote consolidation, doles and freebies, and violence of TMC cadre led to the TMC winning big. However, letβs also remember that NUJS is insulated from these issues. There is no question of NUJS students wanting government doles or fearing reprisals from TMC cadre, as NUJS is an island of privilege. Thus, the fight against NKC should and will continue. Just give us a few days to nurse our wounds and we will come roaring back! π
The next steps that will probably happen are:
1. Approaching the media, which was busy with elections. If the local media are afraid, then Print and the Wire, which have already covered it so far, will publish it. Plus B&B and LiveLaw, though we know that a certain person at B&B is very close to NKC.
2. Write a second, folllow up letter to Chandrachud. The man does a lot of virtue signalling during conferences in Delhi but is quiet here. We need to keep up the pressure.
3. Discussions with Rohit Das about possible legal steps.
Donβt worry people: elections will come and go, but our fight for justice will continue!
