The so-called Malavankar rule is meant to be a non-binding guideline and is not the written law of the land. In 2014, the SC rejected such a petition, but the SC needs to look at it afresh.
- Possible petition 2: Permanent shift to paper ballots in 2029 (this may not be filed if the public mood suggests that the Congress is being a bad loser)
- Possible petition 3: Many Muslims in South India could not vote because they work as migrant labourers in the Gulf. Many Muslims in Bengal could not vote because they work as migrant labourers in South India. This lowered turnouts of pro-Congress voters in crucial seats in Bengal and South India. Thus, in 2029, all migrant labourers should be given postal ballot voting facilities.
Meanwhile, the Bengal units of the Congress and CPIM are super pissed off with Mamata Banerjee and have complained to Sonia Gandhi and Sitaram Yechury. Not only did Mamata split the anti-BJP vote in crucial seats, but her goons mercilessly attacked Congress and CPIM workers. There is a genuine fear that Adhir Chowdhury may lose his seat for these reasons. Mamata may now become "persona non grata" for the INDIA Alliance -- which basically means that the Congress and Left will keep silent if the ED/CBI go after her nephew. Mamata anyway did not attend yesterday's opposition meeting in Delhi and did not even bother to send a representative, which has demoralised the INDIA Alliance.
