Capital markets goes hand in hand with companies act, lodr, icd, etc. That's the basics one should be knowing. After a while it's basic knowledge.

In my above message it came out as CM has no applicability of law, what I meant is it's the same with every other practice area except disputes. So it's not true that there is no applicability of law. Moreover, CM is not everyone's cup of tea. The area can be burdensome for the ones who do not understand companies law their rules, regulations, icdr and lodr.

But don't you think that no applicability of law is what makes you dumb? And that's why once you are into it, it's hard to exit because you lose touch with the applicability of law. Other practice area may have similar long hours but at least there would be some application of mind rather than blindly doing the clerical work.

I don't think switching would be a sound decision. I'm an A2, and people kept telling me not to join the CM team due to long work hours. Tbh it's the same in every other field. Other than this, there is no applicability of law... Same goes for other teams where they have no authority to make decisions based on the law, it's handed over to them by the partners.

I find it exiting to have my names in the deals of ipo which increases my brand value. I feel proud doing it.

Multiple factors at play here but start with this: start working with the team and give the practice area a fair shot, without any biases - what may not have worked out for other people may work for you. There is a steep learning curve in capmarks, so brace for impact for the first few months but it does get easier afterwards. If after 8-9 months of working in capmarks, you do find yourself hating it, then start looking out. You have two options here, depending on the organisation you’re currently working with: a) internal shift. This depends on your partner and firm policies but I have witnessed examples of people switching practice areas within the same firm. b) go to another firm. This isnt the easiest thing to do, but people do it and at your level it wouldnt be too difficult to convince the hiring partner to hire you, if your concepts are clear and you do a good job during interviews. You will most likely have to work as an A0 again since most firms discount experience if a candidate is switching practice area, but in the longer run, if you really want to get out of capmarks, this is a fair bargain.

Now I am not scared for getting into this as taking an exit from this area would be tough and I can't do such work for whole my life.

I am an incoming associate at a T1 Cap marks team. Everyone from people who work in the team to people 10 years senior to me working in other practice areas tell me to leave this and switch to something else. But none of them tells me how do I switch.

How do I switch from Capital Markets to M&A or Disputes? Not a sound financial condition back at home, so money is a consideration for me.
