Reading more and more to build up knowledge and critical thinking abilities is great. But if your aim is also to make friends then you’ll have to start acting less “Opinionated”.
A truly knowledgeable person knows both sides to any issue and will blend into friend groups based on the overall ideology of the group. For this you need to stop being rigid in your opinions and become fluid in accepting other people’s opinion and engaging with it in a healthy manner.
If you do feel that your opinion is the correct one, even then don’t rub it in others’ faces. Instead, gradually change their opinion if you want to.
I was unable to “dumb myself down” and discuss Alia Bhatt movies, Taylor Swift songs, TikTok influencers and other inanities that characterise my generation. I felt like an 80 year old uncle surrounded by a group of immature kindergarten children. I was inevitably isolated, but found some amusement by observing the antics of my batchmates, much like humans observe the antics of zoo animals.
In the end, I formed a small group of “intellectual” friends and also hung out with the potheads.
