Legally India started around 2008 to 2009 in our _________? when we still had blackberry's and terrible ragging culture everywhere from law schools in bhopal to culcutta.
From 2009 to 2013 Legally India was the OG of corp law shit posting and reporting in India. We all used to love reading LI. After 2014s I stopped scrolling through LI.
Met a friend in Singapore a month ago who also quit law practice in Mumbai to join banking. As we reconnected, talked about our old days. I opened legally india, old Facebook accounts after a decade to have some fun and recollect. Tears rolled out. Shocked to see that legally india ceased to exist as a proper website.
A lot of changes happened in law schools and profession in INDIA.
FAST forward to 2024, Plenty of national law universities - back in the day we used to know lot of people even from other NLUs. Plenty of large law firms - some even as big as new york practices. Exponential growth. Some folks who barely passed out of law school even became partners and good Litigation Counsels in Mumbai and Bangalore. How?
Clat as an exam started in 2007 and there was only one good coaching center in the whole country - Law School Tutorials by Sachin Malhan from 90s NLS. Now there are plenty?
Law schools (nlus) have became less cohesive but more bigger, diverse and accommodating. Even NLS with it's legacy batch of 60 changed.?
One big change is offices - past one decade almost every large firm changed offices.
Nariman to Mahalaxmi Parel and Bandra
Good old Delhi to Noida and Gurgaon (feel bad, uncomfortable)
Bangalore offices became bigger. Tech boom is real.
Proposed large Chennai and Hyderabad offices never started or failed even after a decade? How why?
Would be great if someone can revive LI! Or atleast preserve the website to prevent shut down. This is a history treasure trove of corporate law profession in India.
LI was even better than Roll on Friday (UK) at its peak. Indian lawyers will be benefitted if LI gets back on foot.
LI used to make good money from New York and Mumbai law firms even while keeping it's reporting independent.

I too lament at what has happened to LI. The same site which gave exclusive scoops, which fearlessly took on corrupt NLU VCs and got them sacked through student protests, the same site which exposed the blatant corruption and misrule taking place under Manan Mishra’s reign as BCI chair, and most importantly the same site which gave young lawyers and law students a voice… this same site has been reduced to a cheap Reddit thread dominated by Gen Z kids ▮▮▮ A part of me thinks it’s some giant “Deep State” conspiracy by elites like in the Matrix movies: keep Gen Z drugged on “wokium” so that they don’t address issues of real importance.
