This isnt just happening with bar exams- its happening across the board. 10th and 12th board exam results in my state were shockingly low- huge percentages of people not passing. it doesnt surprise me at all.
As an underemployed and seemingly unemployable lawyer (at a T1-T3 kind of setup) who has been sacked from every job I've ever had (sacked thrice so far), living off crumbs from here and there under the guise of being "independent," with no substantive work prospects currently on the horizon, I'd say such filters are necessary and for the greater good. Without them, you'd have a system packed with dalals/brokers and incompetent lawyers (like myself) who could potentially bring irreversible harm upon their clients and disrepute to themselves and this noble profession.
I have only stuck around and survived in this profession for this long to genuinely help litigants who were not being meaningfully supported by their lawyers. Weak cases have a way of paying decently. To my credit, I have consistently been useful. But make no mistake, I don't believe I belong. A functional system should have weeded me out long ago and made those deserving (who have lots of work) more accountable to their clients. The problem with this profession, like most service-oriented businesses in India, is that most clients don’t pay or believe in paying for the service their issue/case needs/deserves. This pushes practitioners (especially the ones who oversell themselves) to take on more work than they should and not give the time and attention to detail it deserves. I have lots of empty time, and it has served me well in getting into the depths of the law and facts in every case I have ever taken on, and securing good orders in several cases where the opponent had a shot at a decisive victory.
Conduct a proper quality audit.
Atleast 1000+ of these sham law colleges will shut down.
Except NLU's, Select private colleges (SLS, JGLS, Christ) and TLCS (GLC Mumbai, ILS Pune, SOEL Chennai) student quality at most Indian law schools are pathetic. As a recruiter I always had this feeling.
Remember when you appeared for CLAT along with 70k others and were worried about if you'll make it in the top 35k? I guess not.
The above news should be as concerning for you as the above scenario. Obviously the majority of law schools are sub par and half of the students appearing for these examinations have not even attended a single day of college - therefore the result.
It shows that india has a lot of sham fraud LLB colleges.

AIBE 18: 1,44,014 candidates appeared for the exam of which 74,368 failed, responded BCI to an RTI plea.
As per the response to a Right to Information filed by Shibu Babu, 1,48,781 students appeared for the exam held on December 10 last year. 74,368 candidates failed the test while over 4,700 were absent. BCI declared AIBE 18 result 2024 on March 26, 2024.

AIBE Exam or All India Bar Exam is literally an open book exam. Even a non lawyer could write the exam. There is no need to study. It's easier than any LLB subject exam.
How is it possible that 51% of candidates fail in the exams?
Are they from fake colleges?
How did they pass LLB if they end up failing in AIBE?
Most LLB subject exams require some prep whereas AIBE doesn't require anything?
