I have an AIR 67X(UG CLAT) and have gotten NRI-S provisional admission in GNLU and i think will be able to get into WBNUJS as well. My dad thinks GNLU would be better as it has a good infra and kolkata is affected by politics, although I have a different opinion. Moreover GNLU is charging a significantly higher amount in the NRI fee and I am not sure if it is worth it. My dad is worried I won't be able to adjust to the hostel in NUJS as it is not in great form. I think I should not let the opportunity go if I do get admission in NUJS,what should I do?

Wait for the 2036 Olympics, cupcake. Ahmedabad will become a first-world city and GNLU will be more sought after than even NLSIU. In any case, Mumbai and Bengaluru are unliveable now. The infrastructure is just terrible and slum dwellers have taken over the city, especially Mumbai.

My opinion may seem biased but I will try to be impartial as possible.

Fee structure: - Regardless of how rich you are, the fee structure will always be an issue in terms of decision-making. GNLU is bloody expensive, one of my juniors mentioned that it’s apparently 14k USD 💀 for just the tution fees. NUJS on the other hand, has an advantage as the total course fee won’t exceed 45-50 lakhs over the course of your duration. The ROI will be automatically a bit better

Placements: - I always keep on saying this that NUJS has an exceptional placement record. It has a slight edge over GNLU in terms of domestic placements, still, the difference is quite marginal. Plus within the T-1 NLU cohort, there isn’t much of a difference with regards to placements.

Scholarships: - GNLU wins hands down here, you will get a variety of academic scholarships, they have a separate scholarship dedicated to litigation and most importantly some of them don’t even need the income criteria. NUJS lacks a concrete scholarship which can dampen your chances of motivation, considering you are the NRI-S student.

Infrastructure: - As I have heard from my pals, the NUJS BH isn’t that pathetic. It’s tolerable, some rooms are nice while some other rooms are comparatively pale. The GH is terrible btw, however, from the second year everything gets sorted. My biased mentality will creep in here. Please don’t choose a college based on Infra, doesn’t make complete sense. If you are really into luxury, then GNLU can’t offer that either, some rooms are still cramped up.

Location: - Gandhinagar is growing, no doubt about it. But, again by the time you graduate, you are still gonna be hopped up on Kolkata as nujs is still stable and it’s anyway in the heart of Cal.

Final verdict: - Nujs wins, considering your situation, I still feel nujs makes more sense compared to GNLU, although again the difference between them is marginal. Yet for a NRI-S candidate, nujs is proving to be more fruitful.

GNLU is between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. Bascially Australian universities like Daekin and Wollongong have set up their India campus in GIFT city, which is right next to Gnlu. The kind of MNC's coming to Gift city is gradual, but top foreign banks, and even Google has set up an office there. So yes, stretching to a 5-year span - I might see Gnlu has some edge in regards to that

Please tell me how does a foreign university campus besides yours help you as a student of GNLU. Are you going to learn what is taught there by osmosis? Then you may as well as join the foreign university rather than GNLU, you are paying high enough as an NRI student. As for other GIFT city businesses, which business hires exclusively from the same city? Had that been the case, the Delhi and Mumbai law firms and companies would not have been full of students of NLSIU, NALSAR, NUJS etc.

Okay I have read all the comments here. I am from NUJS, and can tell for certainity that GNLU has surpassed NUJS 2 years back in all aspects. Just that the students of my Uni are not being able to digest this fact and ACCEPT it. Go for GNLU, it is soon going to be amongst the Top-3 NLUs

GNLU is far superior than NUJS in the current scenario.

NUJS is being plagued with many academical and administrative issues such as the VC PoSH with a senior professor fiasco, there are many layoffs and not much great faculty is teaching in NUJS whereas GNLU is hiring better ones if not world-class and given the support and funding GNLU is far poised to rise in the current times. Given BJP is in power for the 2024-29 term, it would ideally benefit for your study in GNLU for the simple reason backing and power. Kolkata is a mess and a degrading city with the dirty politics being played with NUJS.

For NRI-S seat opt for GNLU than NUJS, a little pinch of extra fees may hit but would be worth every penny.

You seem to be a particularly ignorant troll. First of all, there has not been any layoff whatsoever at NUJS, God only knows what you meant by that. I suggest you brush up your knowledge of labour law. Secondly, throughout the history of NUJS and GNLU, the former has had better faculty than the latter and that's true even today. Which well known faculty even teaches at GNLU?

As for your political comment, that's so ludicrous as to be almost tragic. BJP has been in power over the last decade in centre and for almost three decades in Gujarat. What has GNLU achieved because of that? By that sham logic, you'll claim GNLU is better than NLSIU, because Congress is in power in Karnataka. Keep the trolling and Bhakti to yourself. As a city, everyone in their right mind will still pick Kolkata over Gandhinagar, even in its decline Kolkata is a hundred times better place to live in.

You seem to be an arrogant NUJS supporter. The glory days of NUJS is long gone. The rankings of NUJS is constantly in a turbulent position with it recently also being kicked out of the Top 3, which the students at NUJS always boasted about. With the current situation of VC and registrar, who are the main drivers of such developments in the college, with their money-mindedness and all will just milk the remaining of the brand value NUJS is left with. There have been reports suggesting that the VC wants to build a new campus at Asansol and Siliguri for the BBA/ BCom LLB batches. After the recent introduction of the Bsc LLB law course with no proper accommodation facilities being outside the campus, it's no wonder where the focus of the administration of NUJS has been prioritized over other things. Showing me as ignorant of Labour Law and all just shows the digression with which you want to validate your argument. Stop bootlicking NUJS and the pathetic situation and come to terms with the reality. State support is essential to any college and with the turbulent political party in WB and the connections the VC has no wonder the college is in a decline after 2018. As for the city, Kolkata is a declining T1 city whereas progress is being made in Gandhinagar. No one would want to choose the living in the past city over a more progressive future ready city.

Regardless of whichever spot NUJS is in, GNLU has always consistently ranked below. There are hundreds of universities all over the world with multiple hostels and in NUJS' case, the distance is hardly worth commenting on. In any case, that does not have any impact on the actual education of those students. As for comparing Ahmedabad with Kolkata, people can go to both places and make their own choice.
