Didn't make sense for me to do litigation for 2 years and then move to a firm. Those initial 2 years are a huge struggle.
I am moving to my final year and i feel like i am committing myself to the wrong places. Any guidance, at the right time would be useful. Thanks.
I am a BO 2025 student and am inclined to pursue a career in Litigation (Not very particular as to what sub-specialization). I am open to all forms of Civil/Commercial Litigation.
I find Counsel practice very attractive and would love to get decent exposure to Court practice/procedure and appear regularly. I have 2-3 assessments lined up for me in Tax, Commercial, Civil Litigation. I have noticed that generally at law firms the Associates/SA's do not have much opportunities to appear and that is a little scary.
(1) Do I move to counsel practice/under an independent lawyer right now itself for exposure to Appearing, court procedure etc and then maybe move to firms because you would have anyway made decent contacts with firms if you are in a Sr. counsel's office.
(2) Do I join a law firm and make some money for 3-4 years and then gradually move into Counsel Offices/ Independent practioners. You meet a lot of Sr. Counsel's for briefing and can then ask for chances.
I am a first generation lawyer, Mumbai based upper middle class family (parents have offered to support me financially to reasonable extents and not to compromise on career options) with previous Internships at 2-3 Counsel offices. Please share your insights on this?
