I got a decent rank in AILET this year and would be joining NLUD. I just wanted to ask that should it be worrisome for me at this stage if Iām not able to comprehend words, sentences too often while giving my shot on the book on law of torts by rk bangia?
Will I be able to catchup with my batchmates who seem to have a comprehensive vocabulary and knowledge of the complex legal jargon that is used everywhere?
lol. tort law is easy. But if we could all just learn law by reading books on our own we wouldnt need law school. Dont read Bangia- at least ratan lal Dhiraj lal padh lo- or maybe salmond- which is what I did.
Your batchmates know nothing. theyre throwing around words they dont even know what it means really. This is what every teacher who teaches first year will tell you- the job is doubly hard because you have to correct misconceptions and then teach the right thing. chill. Read history/ social sciences/ politics/ fiction books before university. Theres plenty of time to learn torts.
Your batchmates might seem smart without actually being smart. People who actively speak, have a good vocab and good diction might seem intimidating. But when it comes to actual knowledge and understanding, nobody knows anything. Legal jargon is not important, proper understanding is important. A well written piece is not one which has the best vocab or complex sentences, but one which has complex ideas conveyed simply. Your peers would also be starting from scratch. Make the best use of your professors, approach them to clear doubts, and you will be fine. Do not underestimate yourself based on peers, you will realize later that most of it was fluff.
