I'm a batch topper in my law school but due to personal reasons I had to stay at home for a year after graduation. Then I got enrolled and joined a senior office at high court. Not much opportunities were given but I did any kind of work that came my way diligently. Unfortunately, on my 7th month at office i broke my leg and soon later I fell sick and got hospitalized for 10 days and was in recovery for 2 months at home as per doctor's advice. When I got alright, I intimated my senior that I'll resume my work from now on, he too agreed the same. But on the date of rejoining, he asked me not to come and a week later, via text he laid me off stating that he was not getting many cases after becoming a designated senior. He too laid of another person for the same reason. This was pretty humiliating. I did not even recieve any experience letter despite asking him and his clerk several times.He said he will issue the experience letter but he never did. I feel that he doesn't want me to give any experience letter. I took a break after this and till now i haven't moved on from this humiliation. I feel stuck and I'm hesitant to join any other office as because this incident has sowed self doubt in me. And I feel my own friends don't respect me since I'm jobless and it's pretty hurtful. Also, my family situation is not very smooth. All of this is taking a toll on my mental health. And on top of this, I feel like I'm forgetting the law subjects which I studied in college now. I want to brush up the topics but I'm feeling overwhelmed by all of this. How do I push myself forward and join a office? Should I tell new recruiter that I worked at senior chamber and got laid off ? Or just apply with the internship experience which I gained during college? Please help !!!

Buddy, folks at Google and Meta who thought they were changing the world got laid off. This is nothing.

Chin up. Apply for another job. Just say - you wanted to try out a new practice area/ field of work. Took a break in between. Don’t bitch about your previous employer during the interview.

Life is about falling and picking yourself back up. Topping in exams doesn’t teach you this. It’s ok.

I was in a similar spot (not this bad). However, I believe this advice will help you (PS- someone close gave me). Sleep well. Just figure out a way and sleep well (Tip: watch sunsets and sunrises). Relax. Do breathing exercises and physical activities that will take your heart rate up. Try becoming physically fit. Rest, things will fall in place. When your prospective employers see you as a fit and able person who is sorted out in life, they will inevitably hire you. Just get sorted in terms of mental and physical health first. Everything is connected. Your mental wellbeing is affected by your lack of employment. But reverse is also very much true. So about time you adopt the reverse methodology in life.
