Chennai law firms pay the lowest salaries among all Indian cities. Even Tier 1 (National Practices) firms in Chennai pays less than 1/2nd or 1/3rd of what they pay in Bengaluru or Mumbai.
It doesn't even have anything to do with cost of living. Chennai is cheaper than Bangalore. But the salaries are so low in Chennai.
Tamil Nadu economy is booming, Chennai is emerging. But lawyer pay is bad, really bad. Only people who make money here are Senior Counsels in Litigation.
I have friends in Chennai law college and TN nlu tiruchi. But for corporate practice they prefer anywhere outside Chennai because of the pay.
