This supposed shadow boxing has now turned serious. The Associate Professor had previously complained to the CJI/Chancellor and the latter referred the matter to EC (which is yet to discuss it). The complainant then lodged an FIR with Bidhannagar Police and also with LCC Barasat. Now she has gone to Calcutta HC against both the university/state and the Bidhannagar Police for inaction.

Kindly do not block/dismiss this.

WPA/10583/2024 (before Justice Kaushik Chanda) - relating to inaction of university/state authorities.

WPA/3644/2024 (before Justice Jay Sengupta) - relating to police inaction.
LI can’t censor because the case is now a matter of public record. But the politics behind the case is fascinating. On the one hand, NKC is desperate to appease the TMC to get an extension and there is a likelihood of an increase in domicile quota and two new campuses after the elections. On the other hand, we have a case that could lead to him being denied an extension. Note here that Justice Chanda was a BJP member and convenor of the BJP state legal cell before becoming a judge, so his stance will be interesting. Also, if the BJP gains seats after the elections they may begin to fish in troubled waters and go after NKC.

Yes, Justice KC was an active BJP member before his elevation to the Bench (bitterly opposed by CM "Kindness" while vociferously pushing the candidature of TMC acolytes). The matter did end up in the Cal HC when Justice KC was dealing with a case involving CM and the AG (KD) was appropriately schooled. So let's not read further "politics' into what KC can do.

Many judges without known political pasts act/ed in very political ways and reaped rewards. With KC, he knows that the "scrutiny" will always be there.

The other case by this Associate Professor is before Justice Jay Sengupta who has also given orders "against" the state govt.
Wait till 4 June, my friends. The future of West Bengal as well as NUJS will be clear on that day.
