The tenure of the VC is supposed to end this June or July. Does anyone have any idea who will be replacing him or whether he is getting an extension or not?
EC hasn't approved the extension yet though the state has informally told the VC that he would get it. All his controversies aren't helping things. He is now trying to bypass the Chancellor and get it done.
Why are multiple threads on the same topic being posted? The answer is the same:

- First of all wait till the elections. How the TMC performs will be a sign of who will win in 2026. Depending on the result, a lot of secularists could become saffron overnight, or vice versa. You kids should understand one thing: most grown-ups have zero ideology except self-interest.

- Like last time, the TMC will try to rig the selection panel and push through its own candidate, via Kishore Datta. They will want either NKC again or a local TLC professor.

- The CJI will appoint a nominee to the panel. It will very likely be Justice Dipankar Datta. He will be outnumbered by the TMC men, but an SC judge’s word does have clout and he can insist on a transparent process if he wishes to do so

- If Datta takes an active role and insists on a transparent appointment, you could see a lot of good people applying, including NLU alumni.

- My own bet is on Faizan Mustafa getting the job. The TMC won’t mind too much, while those unhappy with NKC will see him as an improvement.
its a done deal, NKC is getting an extension for 2.5 yrs until he reaches 70 years of age
Yes, irrespective of how the TMC does, they will want to keep him in the chair as possible, which means at least will 2026. But let’s see how the election results go. If the BJP gets 30 or more seats in Bengal, all even 25 to 30, then all bets are off and the TMC could be wiped out of existence via the ED and CBI. This is a one-state party, remember.
And as usual, the SJA won't do anything to tell the higher authorities what a mess he has created in the last five years of his tenure. Which is why not a single faculty member other than his acolytes nor a single student will speak well of him or support his extension. But that's NUJS for you. The days of student activism is over.
