A lot of people are of the view that when it comes to litigation in Mumbai, some of the smaller (2 and 3 tier) firms are almost just as good, if not better, than the bigger firms (AZB, Trilegal, SAM, CAM, etc.) in terms of quality of work and exposure.

Is it true that the exposure and experience to be gained at these smaller firms is of far greater value as compared to the bigger firms, especially for those at the junior levels? Please give names of such firms (if possible, even the specific teams) where there is a thriving commercial litigation/ arbitration practice, and briefing of senior counsels is done on a regular basis. General views/ opinions are also welcome. Thank you!
Hahahahahaha, maybe ask them why the smaller firms pay only 20% of the T1s and T2s. Poorer clients have less complex cases which lead to poorer firms, which lead to poorer associates.
Rashmikant & Partners, Bharucha, Desai & Diwanji come to mind instantly. Would have mentioned Wadia as well a few years ago but a little iffy on that one today. Although parallels in Delhi also exist, such as Karanjawala and Agrawal.
If possible, can you please elaborate on why you would be a little iffy about Wadia Ghandy today? Is it with respect to the quality of work, culture of the firm, long hours??
T1s are generally not great for litigation, so this is definitely believable.
Thanks for this! Any specific partners to apply to / or avoid at these firms?
