It’s possible to get a job through reference literally anywhere. Happens all over the world. Just depends how influential the contacts are, but mostly any decent contact (read: partner’s friends, ex colleagues, same social circle) at least gets you an interview. Now if your contact is a client of the firm and helps bring in business or is well placed say politically (even IAS levels), pretty much direct entry with only a formality interview.
