More than a third of the 2024 cohort from IITs in Bombay, Delhi, and Kanpur haven't been placed. This then raises a few questions:

> If this is the situation in the top IITs, then how bad are things in the lesser-known IITs in obscure locations? More contextually, how bad are things in the NLUs after students have spent significant amounts (direct costs, plus opportunity costs of taking gap years and education loans) keeping aside the irrational exuberance we see?

What was the merit list rank of those who didn’t get jobs? In other words, were they brilliant at the outset and suddenly dipped academically at IIT, or were they not so great to begin with? I think that’s very relevant. If the first is true, it means there may be a need for greater counselling. If the second is true, it means that IIT needs to have stricter entry requirements. I understand that there is a need to admit certain students to diversify intake, but they can be placed in less demanding streams. If there are no less demanding streams, then IITs can start BA courses and shift them there. Being in the top 10 of a BA stream should get you better jobs than being in the bottom 10 of a BTech stream.

Even if I take your bait, and let's hypothetically say that the lower rankers did not get jobs. How was this not a problem for the other decades when there were stellar placements almost every year? Surely, you must know that placements at IITs are not like this on any year, including during/immediately after the 2008 financial crisis which demolished jobs worldwide. Go take your agenda elsewhere.

My guy has now shifted the goalpost. I will take the bait once again. Batch size has stayed nearly constant since a decade with an increase in 2020-21 year (COVID-year) and even then with all the recession during COVID, placements were stellar.

The placements in top NLUs are at least better than this. No T1 NLU has 36% of their graduating batch without a job rn. Yes, the highest package will be much higher in top IITs but only 1% of the students secure such packages. The average package in IITs and top NLUs are similar.

I meant top IITs. You can't compare top NLUs with newer IITs. Let me reiterate in simpler terms, the average package in top NLUs is similar to that in top IITs (top 3-5), the highest package would be higher in top IITs than top NLUs but only about 1% of the students secure such packages. So, in the current market scenario, you have a better shot at a good job from top NLUs than that in top IITs as no top NLU has 36% of the students from the batch of 2024 unemployed right now. (by top NLUs, I mean NLS, NALSAR and NUJS) The placements in NLUD might be lower. I am someone who is currently studying in one of the top NLUs and have multiple friends in other top NLUs, if you ask for official stats, I can't provide that but try getting in touch with folks from the top 3 colleges. Hope that helps!

Anecdotal data is not enough. As someone commented, there's a need for official audited data on placements by the state NLUs. Till that comes, one can assume that the situation in the NLUs cannot be better than that of IITs.

So much so, that even BITS Pilani is struggling with placements and it does not have any reservations.

I see, seems like you are just too obsessed with data. This begs the question; how did you find the link between reservation and low placements? Do you have any "official" data on the caste of the 36% of the students who are yet to find a job in IITB? The fact that BITS Pilani is struggling even though it does not have reservations, proves to some extent that reservations and placements are not related. If that was the case, then NLUD would have beaten NLS/NUJS/Nalsar but that is not the case. Focus a bit on logical reasoning rather than trying to blame everything on reservation and focus a bit on your law school courses, it will do you good.
