I studied law from a private law school in a Mid tier city . I had decent grades and had also some internships with Top Tier Law Firms. Our College placements were at an all time low due to the covid crisis in the country and though i had always focused on getting placed in the corporate team or as an in-house however destiny had its own plan and got me to Delhi wherein i joined a relatively small law firm based out of Defence Colony in New Delhi. Mind you, i had no plans of doing litigation. Had a great great stint of almost 2 years with the firm doing all sorts of civil, commercial, consumer, insolvency and arbitration matters. Also got abundant opportunities to draft and argue. Everything was going great but the only issue was finances. The pay was peanuts even after 2 years, somewhere around (25-30k). In the meantime, towards the end of 2023 i got a call from a well established company in Gurgaon that they were on the lookout for a legal counsel and if i was interested in the position. Without giving much thought i went for the interview and got selected as well. They offered me a great package as well (around 8 lpa) but now one month into the new job and i feel absolutely bored. I think that i am not being productive enough, a lot of my friends told me that this could be due to a change in the working environment as in litigation you always have your hands full and are never free to chill around. Now i don't find my current job to be as demanding as i would like it to be . I dont find sitting on a desk as thrilling as arguing infront of a judge. I dont find compliance and excel sheets as much fun as researching on SCC and putting forward your own interpretation of a certain aspect of law. I miss litigation and this in house job is not suiting me, i am only here because they pay handsomely. What should be my next career step? Continue the in-house practice and take home a huge chunk of money without any botheration or application of mind or switch back to litigation? Also, if i want to switch back, how and where to apply? Any suggestions/leads would be highly appreciated.
1. Working hours - compare this with your litigation working hours
2. Pay - compared to the work you did in litigation
3. Long term goals - too early to see this through
4. Happiness in what you do - soul satisfying work (work is work after sometime - litigation will always be a demanding - or at least 99 percent times, unless you become so good that you can do only a few matters per day and still make a decent living
5. time spent at job - 1 month is really too early, please give yourself 6 months save up, litigation is not going anywhere
5. Intellectual Stimulation - Everyday is boring or there are more boring days than there are normal application of mind days?
