I'm interning with the IBC team of a boutique law firm and I've just realised that for whatever reason, whenever I'm given a research assignment; i somehow end up finding out the appropriate judgement through Google much faster than using any of the Legal Databases. Am I just bad at using SCC/Lexis Nexis or is this a function of the practice area where a lot of NCLT/NCLAT Judgements can directly be accessed via Google?

OP here, to be clear, I still complete whatever assignments are given to me on time. It's just that now I have a habit of running the research questions through Google first where I find the answers like 8/10 times before I go to any legal database and I feel like this practice will not translate well in some other practice area where judgements are not reported frequently in other portals like Mondaq or livelaw.

SCC/Manupatra etc shows you all the judgements whereas Google shows the judgements on which discussion has taken place so its easier to find judgements that have clarified or interpreted a provision of law on Google than SCC. However, if you are looking to do in depth research on a topic then SCC and other legal databases will come handy

Hi have been working in the corporate insolvency team of a tier 1 law firm for about a year. SCC online isn't the best when it comes to search for IBC case law. Would suggest IBC laws or even google searches but this is a very specialized subject so you may just happen to be bad at research in this area if your approach is to jump to search without understanding some of the fundamentals

OP here, I didn't take up IBC as it's an elective course in our institute; but I do have a little previous internship experience in IBC so I do have an understanding of what I am supposed to do whenever I am given work in the sense that I am not unfamiliar with the various terms that are being used. I do use IBC Laws in addition to Google sometimes as well. What would you suggest my approach should be if I want to understand some of the fundamentals as well?
