Nice that y'all are tweeting on Palestine, Tayvis and Trump, but there are adivasi women being raped en masse by elected representatives. The BJP, Congress and CPIM have condemned it in one voice, while the TMC MLA's defence (see below) is "The women don't look dark enough to be adivasis, so we can't believe them".
So far, not a single official complaint alleging rape has been lodged before the police or the women's commission that visited though. Which is indicative of the terror that those poor folks must be living in.
UP, MP, Rajasthan and Odisha currently lead in terms of the atrocities, but of course the central government or Godi media won't be talking about it, since these are all BJP or ally-ruled states.
The Panel for preventing such atrocities in Gujarat has not even met once in the last two years.
If this had happened in a BJP-ruled state then the student collectives of all NLUs would have posted a statement by now. Where are SPAC and the feminist Alliance of NLS who put out a statement for the smallest of things? You won't find them now.
Agreed. However in this case, the student body around NLUs are quiet while in the case of Manipur, UP, MP etc the student body of NLUs become proactive and push out statement.
Didn't the BJP Government in Gujarat submit forged documents before the SC to get a bunch of convicted gang rapists out of prison, and then proceeded to parade them around like war heroes?
*Few LW supporters start bringing in irrelevant incidents from BJP ruled states.
This is the most dangerous thing possible. Selective outrage. If you truly care about women or people from marginalized communities then you should raise your voice irrespective of the party involved
Those are irrelevant to the discussion in this thread. We can obviously take them up in another thread. You can't justify a wrong by pointing at others who have done wrong especially when they are not related.
Imagine an accused takes the defense that they have murdered the lover of their ex because the same has happened many times elsewhere.
Nobody tried to justify what's happened at Sandeshkhali. But it's amusing to filter out RW trolls who would have a heart attack everytime something bad is pointed out in a state ruled by their ilk. Had you been honestly interested in the human rights violation discussion, then you would have acknowledged both and then continued discussion about Sandeshkhali. That you didn't clearly goes to show your motivation.
That's the question, why is someone who is obviously that interested in discussing about such atrocities never starting other threads about other states, where such things are happening on larger scales? Is this a proxy political discussion or a genuine HR one?
Why don't we realize that all political parties and their acolytes within "the machinery" have been playing "no shame" games for decades. The downward spiral of inane whataboutery will continue till the end of time.
What does Sagarika Ghose have to say? This is not trolling. Please read her piece on ThePrint. Conveniently avoids talking about so many things. And yet she claims to be no politician.
Can somebody please remind her of the interview when CM MB walked out? The students and audience showed spine, she didn't.
Let's spare a few minutes for this, please....
