The toxicity and work-life balance is bad everywhere, in tier-1s you will at least have a decent standard of living, a good office, people pretending to be professional and a namesake HR, something you dont find in boutique firms or chambers. I suspect that the criticism of Tier 1s on LI is just a way to reduce competition.
