Surprised to see no discussion on LI about this? This place seems to be only concerned with with salary and law firm talks nowadays. Lets see how well can LI engage discussions on actual law.
I mean as lawyers, I would assume there would be nothing more controversial and juicier than matters involving free speech. The IT rules allows the govt to create a fact check unit to fact check social media posts and direct platforms to either: (a) inform users that FCU has flagged the post (which is somewhat similar to how twitter was flagging Trump's posts as untrue/misleading); or (b) remove the post from the platform.
Now if a law like this would've come into force prior to 2014, then the posts about RG, which BJP made viral, (for e.g., the aloo daalo sona niklega video), would have been fact checked as being a fake/morphed/stitched video and well you get the gist as to how this fact check unit will be used by future govts.
