Reports across the media of CAA implementation happening in a matter of days, as Modi-Shah's latest shock and awe tactic. Today, a BJP Union Minister from Bengal has confirmed the rumour and said:
“The Ram mandir (temple) in Ayodhya has been inaugurated, and within the next seven days, the CAA will be implemented across the country. This is my guarantee. Not just in West Bengal, the CAA would be implemented in every state of India within a week.”
We all remember what happened the last time, which was pre-Covid. Universities across India rose in protest. NLSIU and NALSAR students went on the streets and some were detained by cops. NUJS withdrew an invitation to the state Governor (now VP of India) and invited Derek O'Brien instead. Almost every single NLU student body wrote a petition condemning the CAA.
So are we going to see a repeat? Many of the students who protested back then have since graduated and work in law firms, but some juniors of that time are now in 4th or 5th year. Will these juniors of yesterday and seniors of today take the lead an organise new protests and petitions? Also, those who protested last time and work in firms --- will they also join the protests and support as alumni??

Padhlo. Protests won't do anything. The worse that may happen is you are targeted and put behind bars. Instead focus on clearing law college and joining the work force. Once you earn well then join as many protests as you want, but don't waste parents money right now
SO nehru, ambedkar, gandhi, all of them had great advanced degrees and studied a lot. The slogan for Ambedkar was "Educate, Agitate, Organize". Its just untrue that the project of education is not one of national building. And that prioritising protesting (with likely little enough impact) over education is the way to go at all.
Might. But then it will end abruptly the minute the mooting season and examinations would begin, or any Firm will visit the campus for placements. This is what happens in NLUs, no matter how "left leaning". These so called leftists will be the first ones to sit for placements or do fancy moots.
A person who was a radical leftist at NLSIU is today a counsel representing companies accused of multi-crore scams. The famous "NALSAR Joe" works a finance bro in London. More than half the NUJS anti-CAA signatories work in Big 7 firms and advise Adani, Ambani, Tata, Jindal, Birla etc.
Just shows that all this campus activism on social justice is a fake trend.
An announcement next month means it will clash with exams. Smart timing coz students at NLUs, Jindal and Ashoka will be busy studying (though peeps at JNU, Jadavpur and Jamia students will be on the streets no matter what).
But let’s also be clear about CAA before posting on Twitter and holding protests—- the law fast tracks citizenship for non-Muslims in Muslim countries. It does NOT take away citizenship from Indian Muslims. That’s completely wrong propaganda which was spread on social media last time.
Can we speak about NLSIU. Our students lack the courage to stand up for anything now. Have you seen even a single student activity protesting against the admin's arbitrariness?
I'm not talking about writing private letters, but actually protesting. Not a single student did so! They may write two or three letters against CAA, and that will be it.
So how come there were such huge protests last time but there's such a lack of enthusiasm this time? Is it because the protests last time were sponsored and egged on by a powerful ecosystem that is now much weaker?
