Forget legacy achievements, forget NIRF. Just look at this week: Senior Advocate designations and Sudhir poaching Sid Chauhan, adding to the fantastic faculty. Re Senior Advocate designations, I'm not sure other NLUs with match up even in future because so few of their graduates opt for litigation.
Sudhir is also starting a litigation placement programme where students will be placed under Senior Advocates at a decent package (not comparable to Corp obvio)
Senior advocate designations are legacy achievements. Faculty point is valid, but has the grad outcome improved because of such faculty in the last 5 years? Not perceptibly yet.
So calling other NLU VCs mediocre is allowed, but call the NLS VC the same and the Mods will be up in arms. Why not just change the website's name from Legally India to Legally NLS?
You are right. NLS will remain way ahead any other NLU. Not even 5% toppers of CLAT choose Nalsar/Nujs or NLU Delhi over NLS. Faculty at NLS far far superior now. The gap will further increase in coming years.
This faculty superiority is just a smokescreen. The NLS faculty are not ahead in any parameter including research. With regard to classroom teaching, so long as the students of NLS don't prove themselves to be ahead of those from other law schools, which they have not for a decade now, including Sudhir's tenure, it is not objectively proven that their faculty are teaching law any better overall compared to the other NLUs either. So currently it is a mere narrative and not a fact.
A faculty to shine and really show their worth needs an administration that is supportive and that's what sudhir is. So expect that the next decade these faculties will become world renowned. Till now they were not given a free reign but with NLS they will prosper more.
Can't compare Nalsar/Nujs to NLUD. Not everyone who gets into NLS, gets into NLUD as well (and vice-versa) but everyone who gets NLS will get into Nalsar and Nujs owing to the entrance exam being the same. And most kids don't realise how bad a massive batch size is. I won't be surprised if some NLS kids in future even retake CLAT/AILET to move to Nalsar or NLUD.
Enjoying this discussion. Supporters of state universities debate which one is better. This is like a debate about which Ranji Trophy team is better. But no state NLUs will ever be in the national narrative and ever get a seat on the big table. They have to be satisfied with playing at the sub-national level (and stay there). Keep going.
What's your point? Not as if the bottom 10-15 IITs/IIMs carry any prestige despite them being central universities. As far as NLUs go, the top few have outperformed many central universities including all the humanities garbage that comes from places like DU. Oh, and NFSU still sucks.
No matter the batch size. The effects of any change will only culminate in the next 5 years when the batch is in the final year or already graduated. That's when the massive batch size will rear it's ugly head. However the brand name of NLS is huge to the point that it will not be detrimental to future students. Yes, not everyone will get a tier 1 job. But that's the case even today. No matter which institute you go to, being in the top 10% is a must nowadays.
However the gap between NLS and Nalsar or NLS and NLU Delhi is not too much.
One bad VC at NLS for one term and one great VC at Nalsar or NLU Delhi can change everything overnight.
Present Nalsar or NLU Delhi VC are too mediocre if compared with Sudhir Krishnaswamy. That makes all the difference.
