3rd year student from hpnlu here, that was the LLM girls hostel that was taken on rent by our college admin just last year. In fact, the building itself was just constructed last year as well. Its being told that there was an excavation going on nearby, hence it collapsed due to a weak foundation. It was honestly a relief that we have our winter internship break going on hence it had no students inside (their belongings were there though as it's just the middle of the academic year). It's frankly beyond me (and pretty sure all of us who study here) how this administration continues to make such decisions because why would you not check a building before making people live there? We have 2 new hostels under construction rn, one of them right under the steel bridge that has already collapsed twice during heavy rains, and yet again no one cares
Honestly speaking, even Academic/ Admin Blocks are prone to collapse. When such kind of huge structures are built, first thing that is required is soil testing at sophisticated labs. However, HPPWD did a shoddy ground work.
Also, the alloted land itself is highly slant, which most probably can't support a heavy structure.
