What is the maximum amount that an equity partner (who is not the founder or a member of the family owning the firm) can earn per annum? How much does ashwath rau actually make
Funds trio from all equity firm (reasonably rainmaking) are making 3-4 cr. Young partners in the same firm have a base pay of 2.75-2 cr.

As for unique people like Ashwath, these are partners who have not only been favoured by the Shroffs to Mody to Gorthi since being a junior lawyer , but these lawyers also bill at a higher rate than other partners. Same goes for Sai from TL. They've been around for a long time and know the market very well. I think we can reasonably expect 5Cr min. Maybe more if they billed more? But definitely not less. Can speak so confidently as I work with thr funds trio and know their billing.

Few more like Suharsh S (cutest partner ever), pretty sure he's billing more than his batchmates - AJ from funds.
Ashwath, Sai and other senior partners in that league in T1 firms will be earning around 12-15 cr. not 5 Cr.
For Rau why not lmao, he is in the most high margin practice, doing the best deals.
Because despite of Mr Rau being who he is, deals in the market are limited. There aren't infinite deals in the market. Also, there are more partners who will do the same work at lesser rate that clients might be drawn to. Utna hi kamayega na jitna billing hoga.
3-4cr seems awfully less for the funds trio, especially when engineers with 3-4PQE earn noth of 1cr
Someone form the funds practice who would have an insight needs to confirm for once and for all!!! How much do funds partners make!?!!?
bhai itna kya urgent information hai tere liye? If you were really up for promotion to EQUITY partnership, you would definitely know the exact numbers. If you're a law student and want to choose a practice area, please choose M&A/ GC/ B&F as Funds is very BORING and has a cap over the number of lawyers required and the profits.
No engineers with 3-4 PQE makes north of 1 cr, except maybe at HFTs, which select like 3 students from the top IITs. The other toppers at FAANG will be at 50-60 LPA (the increments is not much as compared to law firms), and the vast majority of engineers are at 10LPA.
Exactly and Engineers at hfts earn more than corporate lawyers at initial stage but if you see when they reach equity partner level Engineers Don't earn that much compared to lawyers
Even those 60 LPA are hugely inflated numbers. Locked up equity mostly. The toppers at FAANG realistically are at 30 LPA max (pure cash wise) and these are vast minority btw. The majority of Btechs joining FAANG are at between 10 to 20 only.
The point still stands, a corporate lawyer and an engineer with the same pqe both at the top of their fields have a big big pay disparity. A litigator on the other hand can outearn any enginner
As per some ITR case link posted on another thread on LI, Ashwath used to earn 8 Cr years ago. So it's definitely not 5 Cr.
Damn, didn't know! Wow that's really some money. Although i would like to mention, MINIMUM 5cr.
When someone is earning 15 cr+, guesstimate of MINIMUM 5 cr is not correct. It’s like saying Reliance earns a minimum of 10 cr.
All these earnings come at a very high cost (personal and professional). Work demands a lot of consistent hard work. Lot of people switch careers or set their own pace. Its high time those things are discussed as they can help in setting context and expectation of young professionals and students who are about to start their professional journey. I am about a decade in the profession and know several instances wherein some people have decided to take control of the pace of their life and not let it depend on the far fetched allure!
