If youβre in college, network like crazy, get in touch with seniors to figure out which teams are more bearable. Internships arenβt enough as you usually see a team only for 1 month.
The shouting culture isnβt present everywhere. More importantly, law firm work is so hectic, even without such bosses, it may get taxing. Look for teams where work pressure is relatively lesser - where people arenβt working every weekend or people arenβt working till 4 am every week. Unless you are extremely driven/ delusional itβs not easy to survive in such places.
Ask the right questions about workplace dynamics
Ask the people you relate with what they feel about their work & workplace - as everyone has different expectations and tolerance level
Target smaller firms where seniors are more likely to care about your learning and well being (again this is very person specific)
All the best!
Corporate (law firms)/S. Advocates chamber < In-house or Big-4 consultancies < Academia < Policy think tank and research domain < Govt Exams (though it's challenging but not toxic) < family business (if u have)
U can also consider other better options aside from law, such as finance, marketing, business consulting, blogging, freelancing etc but considering youre form a t1 nlu, Things in law would be pretty easy and straightforward for u.
What I have told u is Universal Truth and nothing can be otherwise, trust me, i know.

I'm a first year student at one of the t-1 colleges. While I'm doing well in my law school, I sometimes get serious reservations/second thoughts on pursuing a career in this field. The thing is I have heard of numerous instances of my seniors telling me how the work culture in this field is extremely bad. They've highlighted instances of how partners in firms and senior advocates in chambers shout and hurl abuses at their juniors. In addition to this I have read numerous testimonials here on LI stating the same. The problem is I am not very thick skinned and I'm extremely sensitive. Both these features of my personality are major impediments for me because the general expectation in this profession is to be thick skinned and not take things to heart.
What should I do if I feel I won't be able to withstand the pressure and humiliation junior associates are subjected to in law offices? Should I take the decision of exploring some other career avenues?
