Seeing some shocking scenes on TV from today’s rally. People armed with swords and sticks are tearing down English signboards and threatening shop and restaurant owners. Absolutely thuggery and lawlessness. Is this a sign of things to come? We have already seen domicile reservation forced upon NLSIU. Is the only hope that NLSIU wins the pending Supreme Court challenge and the HC decision is upheld, thus killing reservation? Should NLSIU lobby aggressively for NLU nationalisation?
Each state is more than free to propogate its language. Further NLSIU shouldn't be above the law or be so supremacist to the point that it thinks that cultural and linguistic preferences of the locals can be ignored. Domicile reservation is forced because NLS won't come out of its supremacist mentality that it's above every other institution. Every nlu has it and has complied with the state regulations, why should nls be any different? If nls wants to be a part of the state and the city, it needs to show respect and acceptance of local laws, norms and culture. If not, it can become a private university and do as it pleases.
The VC is leading the OG thuglife. No worry so long as he's around.
Everytime I think NLS kids aren't just NLS obsessed maniacs and are really just happy and proud to be in that college, someone like this connecting random national topics to NLS comes along. The KRV had nothing do with the domicile reservation. Domicile reservation is a cross-party line sentiment in karnataka because of how little the uni gave back to the state in recent years terms of working professionals. It's long time the wannabe Harvard peeps at NLS learnt they aren't an island inside Karnataka.
I quote NDTV:

The language row is back in focus after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in October "everyone living in this state should learn to speak Kannada".

So the Congress clearly lit the spark and is 100% responsible for this. Let’s also remember that the 60% Kannada rule is a local law and the Congress is in power in the state. They are obviously doing this to cut the BJP’s Lok Sabha tally in the state. It’s really disgusting to see the extent to which the Congress and other opposition parties are playing dirty politics. They would rather set this country on fire than see Modi rerun to power. All to safeguard the power of the Nehru dynasty and likewise other regional dynasties running the RJD, Samajwadi, DMK, TMC etc.
Had Modi been really doing that well for the nation, then his party would still have been in power in Karnataka.
Even if SC strikes down NLS' domicile quota, the place is already dead with the 300+ batch size.
This is living in a fantasy land. Once a quota is given, it cannot be taken back. SC will not intervene. The state government will not "give up" NLS.
Firstly

BANGALORE = MUMBAI

Back in the day Marathi Language goons used to make a mess in Mumbai for Marathi to be the language used.

Did it succeed? IT was an UTTER FAILURE. Now in Mumbai almost nobody talks Marathi. Hindi is prominent even in Pune and Nagpur.

NOBODY WOULD SPEAK KANNADA IN BANGALORE in the next 20 years.

Fate of Marathi in Mumbai will happen in Bangalore for Kannada.

No amount of language chauvinism can prevent thats from happening. All this kannada language chauvinism is BS.

Next time when BJP comes, they will shut down all Kannada activists and ensure that Hindi will also be respected.

Now all this kannada chauvinism is because of congress and local parties.
its language chauvinism when kannadigas want to speak their language but not when north indians want to speak hindi? how does anyone square that circle!
Who needs others to come divide us and rule us? We are divided enough already.
how can you be united with someone who thinks of themselves are more Indian than you? who thinks that the language you've known since you were born is a joke? who thinks that you should be accommodating to all sorts of migration and not expect anything at all in terms of assimilation into society?

Why are Kannadigas not angry with Telguites? because they learn the language. they assimilate, and they treat the locals as equal humans. Read that stupid angels share book and tell me that there isn't irrational bigotry in how north Indian migrants- particularly the wealthy people- treat the so-called "natives". why should South Indian states pay more than their fair share toward the national coffers and receive less than their share? why are they punished politically for implementing health care and family planning and education and employment? why are we made to go along with the silliness of religion-based politics when that stuff is irrelevant to most South Indians?

If you want the country to be united- you have to take seriously the issues raised by those unlike you. If you want to simply shame people by calling them anti-national when not doing anything to help them lead a better life- you can go ahead. You just won't be successful.
Hindi is a common link language for India. English is a colonial language.
Common link for whom? Only for the Hindi speaking states. Nobody else cares about the language.
Justice Dipankar Datta of Supreme Court, a Bengali spoke about Hindi being National Language of India in a SC order
He isn't the Constitution. Any individual who speaks about there being a 'national language' in this country does not know the law well enough, judge or not.
Yes, we will go by what you say. The SC Judge does not know the law. He is the law.
Just go by the Constitution, man. No individual. There is no national language for this country. Never has been. Never will be.
That's the problem with Bhakts. They are eager to personalise the law and accept individuals as authority figures and their words as sacrosanct, without application of individual mind. Which is exactly what legal education is meant to help one unlearn. You probably don't even understand how disturbing your pronouncement about the judge being the law sounds.
Better a colonial language from people who no longer wish to dominate than one from people now wish to dominate over us.
Do you know how big this country is ? There are many many states where no one speaks a word of Hindi. It’s not a link language in any real sense at all.
