A partner of an Israeli law firm had come to NLS for an elective. The concerned committee had invited the person to deliver a lecture on the pros and cons of AI in Business. However, a section of the student body painted him as a Zionist and tried to boycott the lecture labelling him as a supporter of genocide. The Convenor of the Committee was pressurized to cancel the talk and was also labeled as a supporter of genocide/zionist. However, he still went ahead and organized the talk.

Personally, I believe the Freedom of speech in NLS is at zero now! How can you censure someone for their nationality? It's similar to how Hitler killed all the Jews because of their identity. This is a non-violent version of Nazism where they are canceling all Israelis/Jews. I hope NLS recovers from this cancer soon.

I do not approve of the cancellation at all, especially after having invited a guest. However, judging someone on the basis of nationality is also exactly what the Israelis have been doing to the Palestinians at this point of time and killing them. Not that this guy is responsible for the national policy, so there is no reason for this backlash. By that logic, NLS students shouldn't apply to any US firms considering US support for the war.

Surely these students have heard what happened at Harvard and NYU? Law firms cancelled job offers to those making antisemitism. In this case, trying to cancel a Jewish lecturer on a non-political topic and calling him as enabler of genocide is antisemitic to the core. No different than cancelling a Muslim speaker on corporate law and labelling him as an ISIS supporter.

Why should the students protest against Sudhir inviting the academic? The person in question is a respected scholar and alum and has been invited purely to advise on his area of expertise. He has also challenged the decision in court on a very strong ground, which is that his employer does not have jurisdiction over acts committed outside the workplace and outside the course of employment. This is basic law 101.

You think if israel with its military power wanted to raze gaza and west bank to the ground tomorrow they couldnt? Theyd have it done in a half a day. 1) israel has nukes. The international community and all is nonsense when you have the US and most western states standing behind you. You've presumably been to law school- you know international law is not magic words that prevents terrible things from happening. You presumably know international criminal law works on a post hoc basis. You also presumably know that the way the UNSC is composed right now- theres no real reason to believe theyd hold israel back in any instance. Moreover, someone who honestly thinks that a country in modern world can use nukes with impunity is the only person who does not have any touch with international law.

Hundreds of reporters whose credibility you know about because they popped up on your insta feed? you do realise deepfake tech exists? as does AI? you do realise propoganda exists during war time?
