I am from a fairly well known private college, having a relatively good CV with international moots, publications, and a respectable GPA. However, a concerning trend has caught my attention lately. Many of my peers seem to be going to extreme lengths to secure internships at Tier 1 or Tier 2 firms. It's unsettling to learn that some of my batchmates and a few others from private colleges are obtaining these positions by forming relationships (purely sexual) with associates and partners from firms or advocates who can get them in through a reference. What surprises me is that this practice seems to have become commonplace, extending even to students from the so-called vacation colleges and there’s no background check. While I understand everyone's right to a personal life on social media or dating platforms, it's disconcerting when transactions such as these start overshadowing professional qualifications. It used to be acceptable when the connection was familial, but this lewd practice is unacceptable. It feels unjust to those of us who've dedicated ourselves to academics and professional growth, only to find ourselves at a disadvantage against these personal associations.

I don't understand why you distinguish between "familial" connections from such "personal" connections when you are accepting that everyone has a right to personal life. Both of them are the same. The aim is to supersede merit.

Imo this personal connections path is as bad as familial connections and not because it involves sex but because such people are undermining merit.

The effect of both of these is exactly the same for a worthy candidate. According to the given scenario, it is clear that there are no "sexual favours" involved as these women are dating law firm associates and partners (there is a very thin line here). It can't just be bad because it involves consensual sexual relations between two individuals (whatever the motive of both parties). It's not something like a casting couch in the film industry, there is no coercion involved here.

If sexual favours, undue influence, and coercion are involved then it is a crime.

don't care what people are doing in their bedrooms. I care about how these connections (personal or familial) are affecting a worthy candidate's chances of landing a job.

I have had a fair share of women signal interest in me for obvious reason(job security, quicker promotions , inclusion in best assignments ) but because I am much older I have been raised differently. It really goes without saying that you don't fuck on the same table you work / eat.

But this current crop of female associates and interns , have shown crass & entitled behavior with close to zero work ethic ! 7-8 years ago it was manageable . I could sense sincerity in their work and those occurences were rare . But recently, I have had interns wink at me ! Flirt with me and signal for a date ! Dude , my daughter is your age ! I am an old man and likes to take walk , drink tea and roam the town with my oldie wife in Activa .

Women (some, not all) do this because they know that they are never gonna get screwed for this shit. This is why such behaviour coming from a woman is more dangerous than a man doing the same thing since in almost all cases the man wouldn't be able to do anything in the real world.
