Child, I wouldn't advise you to attend a virtual internship, especially at the tier 1s.

These firms particularly have a lot of staff and work around, but not enough for over the counter intern delegation. But their intern intake is quite inflated for some reason known to the HR.

Therefore, selective delegation of work is practiced, and certainly online interns are not alotted the chunk of work, the kind of which you'd expect to be assessed over, for lack of connectivity and closeness to explain the details of the work assignment and elicit an intial response for preliminary feedback. Calls and messages are effective only once you break that barrier.
I understand your point. The thing is, I recently interned at a T1 firm and despite it being an offline internship, almost 90% of the communication was through calls/WhatsApp.

So I thought I might as well do an online one after my college reopens. I'll be doing an offline one during my internship break.
