Thank you so much for your response. Is reading and writing skills in the local language a necessity for RE practice?
It very much is necessary, you could however start by using google translate until you get and hang of the local language.
Pray me, could you please tell me your home state? Will advise accordingly.

- RE transactional lawyer from a Tier-1.
It's West Bengal. The Kolkata offices of big law firms majorly engage in Real Estate Law.
I'm from WB- and therefore the question in the first place. I had Bengali till class 10. As long as you can read Bengali, the rest is very doable. Do not worry.
Are you in Khaitan by any chance? Does your firm hire freshers directly out of college in the RE practice area?
Additionally, I can speak and read Bengali well but my writing skills are not that good. I don't think I would be able to draft legal documents in Bengali...what is the level of local language proficiency required?
Could there be an internship opportunity in your team. I have 5 months of RE Litigation experience but want to shift into RE Non Lit Transactions. I had an offer from Saraf but they were asking for a 2 year commitment, great team would have loved to work with them.
What kind of work is done in the local language? Do I have to draft legal documents in local language? I'm a native bengali and had Bengali as my second language till class 12th but have hardly ever read a legal document in Bengali.
