There is this collogue of mine at my current firm who moved from a senior position of the said practice at Bharucha, trust me all she does is do bullishit with little to no core work. Tier 1s use the term manager very casually for a job so lame. Best holiday job if you can move in.
their parents are the clients and they anyways suck with work; therefore such firms taken them into such teams without any expectation from them whatsoever.
Firstly, "Practice Development" in B&P is actually shit - no real Practice Development being done to begin with.
PDG is not at all related to core legal work, but related to the business development and strategising for profitability of the Firm. It's an entirely different vertical and runs parallelly with the practice carried out by the fee earners of the Firm.
Stop dissing on jobs you have not taken time to understand before opening your foodhole and having a case of verbal diarrhoea, love.
Practice Development, or Business Development Teams in law firms are responsible for aiding the fee earners to leverage their positions within the legal market to the fullest in order to gain recognition, and consequently, clients.
The job encompasses a wide variety of tasks like market research, social media, strategy, law firm relationships (if you're in a T1 and have Partners with connections to a lot of international law firms), submissions (a big part of PD/BD), league tables (also a big part of the job), analysis and recommendations for events, for participation, sponsoring, and/or speaking, etc.
While this position isn't necessarily for lawyers, a lot of individuals with law degrees opt to pursue this career path. One may also be eligible to work in PD/BD in law firms if they're well versed in marketing, possibly hold an MBA, and have relevant experience at Big 4 consultancy companies.
Personally, I have a degree in marketing, an LL.B and an LL.M, and I work in this vertical (ironically started out at Bharucha. Barf.). You can follow a bunch of people on LI to get a better idea of this side of legal services.
Not worth at all. My friend left within 8 months of joining and there is no exit opportunity. Will be difficult for you to take a legal role in a law firm after this. Do it only of you are seriously interested in business development role. Otherwise you'd be messing up your legal career
