Don't do it. The administration and faculty are proving themselves to be absolutely incompetant and despotic. The UG Dean doesnt listen to students. In an absurd and infantilising move, they’ve now mandated that final-year law students, 22 year olds, must bring their parents to campus to fill out admission forms and attend a so-called "parent-teacher meeting."

Electives are an absolute joke. The IPC head (who also studied here lol) behaves like an insecure teenager with an unchecked ego and this has directly compromised placement opportunities. The handful of competent faculty members are either being pushed out or are leaving voluntarily, having recognised the sinking ship for what it is.

The campus itself is a nightmare, concrete and sand, a scorching 35°C most of the year with no air conditioning, barely edible mess food that causes frequent food poisoning, and a non-teaching staff so hostile it’s as if they were hired specifically to make student life miserable. If you’re non Tamil, good luck. What’s truly tragic is that despite all this, TNNLU has attracted a few truly brilliant students over the years. But their achievements whether winning moots, publications, or placements, have come in spite of the university, not because of it. Every bit of success has been self-earned, often with the administration doing everything it can to obstruct rather than assist.

Before you consider joining, speak to some alumni. The successful ones are too busy erasing this place from their memory, and the unsuccessful ones are probably stuck here, teaching.

Why is this sudden influx of TNNLU celebration on LI? Their junior students have recently been told that this forum exists? It's funny how they keep harping about their corporate placements without any official data or report to back it up. And as for faculty, the less said the better. Not a single faculty there has got any credible publication or research record from what one can see on their website. If there are people who are not named on the website, that's different.

I would advise you not to fully colour yourself with the 2023-24 Placement Records with 2030 (which year you would graduate). Rather, the upgraph from where it started (when it placed 3 students in 2019 roughly [excluding PPOs]) to over 20 here it is a massive surge, given the dominant domicile student base must be noted. Since TN Lawyers Clubbing means Chennai is essentially a litigation-oriented city with its culture still stuck to arguing in a Court or similar Fora (This is why you do not see the Tier-1 firms having broad corporate practice in Chennai and rather some have only back-end offices). Even corporate firms in Chennai, their partners also visit offices, bundle up and move to their respective Courts and Tribunals. Given this scene, TNNLU and its large domicile students show a keen interest in litigating careers, and some have truly emerged successful already in the HC club.

Nevertheless, TNNLU students are consistent in their Tier-1 Corporate Responses, and placements are increasing. IPC is constantly under dynamic improvement and devoid of stagnation after Mr. Nideesh took charge as Dean. The newbie young lineup of faculty (all in the 24-26 age bracket) who joined early this year all have credible backgrounds. In reality, they teach well in the classroom and prepare students mentally to face testing firm culture (when they will be placed one day) along with academic progress like conversion of an original research project into good DPBR Publications. Some of them even constantly remind students of their previous semester to publish the projects written under their guidance.

As many recent threads on LI indicate, TNNLU culture is non-toxic, and humbleness flows in the undercurrent of the students' collective attitude, it is indeed true. I understand that comes with a tinge of subjectivity, but the overall atmosphere is lawyer-friendly and largely sensitises mental health and well-being.

Assuming TNNLU recruits more experienced faculty (There are 0 Professors other than the VC and Registrar who do not teach and only 1 Associate Professor) based on seniority and makes permanent assistant professors (many youngsters are ad hoc), the academic atmosphere will even become more excellent and consistent.

All students have plenty of opportunities to participate in one official program or the other. I will not comment on the specificity of day-to-day problems faced in TNNLU hostels as these are subjective or temporary (although pain is sometimes real). But all NLUs have their own downsides, so it is unfair to call TNNLU's choice based on hostel-life, which is NOT BAD in an extensive opinion pool.

So, given what it has, and what it plans, and what it may end up in 2030, TNNLU IS INDEED A SERIOUS THING TO CONSIDER.

TNNLU students are acing at their internships. I heard their placement committee is functioning very well. TNNLU students are interning at great law firms like, JSA, AZB, SAM, Trilegal and many other. From my interactions with few partners at law firms, I got to know that TNNLU students are very fast learners and humble. Their placement brochure is yet to be released which would give a clear understanding of the placements college.

As far the students are concerned, it is less toxic compared to other NLUs, every seniors and helpful and approachable. There are many forums to showcase talents for the people who are interested in extra curricular activities.

TNNLU has a 25 acres green campus with almost all of the amenities. It has a really great library with subscription to almost all of the top law journals and e books. TNNLU is a growing university, if your joining the university at 2025, by the time you finish your graduation, TNNLU would have reached to great heights. I advice you to consider TNNLU as a growing Tier 3 college.

Would doubt placing CNLU in this bracket (in terms of placements). I have otherwise seen people from DSNLU and NLU Nagpur much better placed in job market.

Also GNLU v. NLIU preference dilemma is protracted. GNLU was coming out as winner for last few years, but has now earned itself a bad name due to insensitive new batches and other horrible events. NLIU is also neck and neck with GNLU in terms of placements.

I would recommend TNNLU above all the other NLUs mentioned there. I know a couple of people from NLU Assam and DNLU, they have been complaining endlessly about the campus and stuff. TNNLU is doing way better in terms of placements and the campus is also pretty good. You may add your preference list as below;

NLS, NALSAR, NUJS, NLUJ, GNLU

NLIU, RGNUL, HNLU, RMLNLU, NUALS, NLUO

TNNLU, CNLU, MNLU(mumbai),

DNLU, DSNLU, Nagpur and others - instead of joining those lower than MNLU mumbai, you can join any pvt unis like JGLS or Symbi or Christ.
