Hello there! I’m in a bit of a rumble here, I’m currently doing a ba from hindu college but I want to switch over to law. Too late to get into a tier 1 nlu so my best best now is glc Mumbai or a good private like sls Pune. But seeing how the job market is right now I want to know if it’s even worth it to switch to law? Firms are on a freeze hire till 2025 (even though I’ll be graduating in ‘29) moreover I don’t have any such connections in the field so that is another downside. Should I just get done with my ba and do an mba so that I’ll have a decent job or is it worth the risk to drop out next year and do law?
Since you are in Hindu college, why don't you appear for DU. It is in the same vicinity and commands a lot of respect. Also, since you are already aware of legal environment, you have better head start from your peers who are basically ignorant of law firms scene. I can personally say that 99% of DU crowd don't even know about firm tier culture. In DU, it is either judiciary or litigation. Market up down hota rahega ache clg jao aur starting se internships karo. You can easily get into any tier-1 law firms, and to remove your doubts, law and lawyers never go out of fashion. Parliament will keep on making laws which means companies, litigants , judiciary will need more lawyers. Whether choosing law or MBA is your call, LI pr you will only find negativity regarding law firms. But times are changing, I am positive that by your time, law firm environment will certainly improve.
Just finish the BA and if you're still interested in law do a 3 year LLB from CLC/LawFac at DU. The DU networks are good and you'll be able to build more in the Delhi law circuit.
Hi mate. So first of well Ba from a Hindu college is nice. But if you want to do a BALLB degree with it, it’s not gonna be a train wreck, rather a unique career trajectory. In nujs and nalsar, there are a lot of people who did a general BA degree first (although they dropped out later on) and then cracked clat to become a lawyer. This one GNLU person completed his bachelors from Hansraj and then pursued a BALLB. They all are in terrific places now. Especially one of them is in a Magic Circle Firm.
My point is that if you are decided about law, make sure you crack the top 5 and then get your degree. There will be no remedy if you join other nlus. Maybe HNLu will also work. So prep well
Since clat is unpredictable, buck up your attitude for MBa as well (CAT is tougher but there are better MBA colleges in totality than law) for a backup. You need to smoothly transition into law. And if that means law firm, then you are on a right path. Your degree is your strength not weakness. There are a lot of people out there who did the same thing. Some other person suggested to take the CUET five year llb as well. Not bad! Keep your options open. Maybe give ailet so that you don’t miss the Delhi culture.
Go for an MBA. Try for IIM or SP Jain or FMS or MICA, else work somewhere for 2 years (e.g. an online media house) and try ISB. An MBA degree is a million times more useful than law.
