I got a similar response from people from other law firms as well, both large and small. We are sitting on a golden opportunity right now for Indian lawyers who want to build international careers and even migrate to the UK, which has just emerged owing to the cocktail of remote work, cost advantage from India, creation of the SQE in 2022. We are organising a bootcamp to share how Indian lawyers can tap into this opportunity this weekend, from Saturday to Monday. Let me know in the comments if you're interested so that we can DM you the link.
Is remuneration for SA in magic circle (London, Singapore, HK) higher than a PA / counsel in India? Does moving abroad make sense for higher savings - after deducting cost of living (rent + tax + meals)?
Someone posted on another thread that it is a 'no profit and no loss situation'.
Do the savings average out? i.e. does a SA (Magic circle) have similar $ / sterling savings compared to a PA / counsel in India (assuming not married, no car, living reasonably etc.). If someone wants to save money for dependents in India - does it make financial sense to move offshore or stay in India? The query is limited to this level - not looking at partner level as that would building a book / making business case etc.
not to rain on anyone's parade the situation is not as rosy as made out to be in AA's post.
yes, there are opportunities, but connecting to those opportunities is not easy. 3+ PQEs may apply directly, but only about a quarter would get a call back, and then about 1 in 10 will be called for final interview.
Passing SQE is not that difficult (as long as you have some form of coaching and can spend around 1-2 hours everyday for 5-6 months), however, getting a position to train after that is. So, I would suggest please have a chat with someone who has been in the UK in a similar job profile (that you aspire) to know what the current situation is.
Reminds me of an apocryphal quote from an immigrant βWhen I got here, I learned three things: The streets are not paved with gold. They are not paved at all. I am expected to pave them.β
