How does SILF have so much clout? Who in the government is batting for SILF even after the BCI notification allowing foreign law firms? Are Cyril and Gautam Adani lobbying against it?
The two sticking points are IPR laws and legal services, but IPR laws are a million times more important for the UK. If India grants concessions on IPR laws, the UK won't mind signing the FTA without a law firms clause and keeping that for later. This may eventually happen.

I keep saying this and no one listens - FTA will allow UK lawyers to set up shop in India and practice UK law, this was already allowed, but now it will be in writing. UK law firms want to set up in India to practice Indian law as well (like what PwC does in practice), however, it will not happen.
