Hear me out, I dont feel that passionate about law now I'm in 3rd year of law school. I was okayish at academics (90%+ in 10th and 12th). Most of my cousins who got 80% are doing engineering and are getting placed at 6-10lpa which are not bad salaries. I understand we have tier 1 law firms which pay 15-18lpa too but these firms are selective and not everyone gets in. The fall off is so steep after that, most tier 2 firms pay 6-10lpa where most people get in. The pay is so low even though I was academically much smarter than them
tbf bud, if this is how you truly feel, quit now instead of being an associate and being miserable, find alternatives, do the degree just for the namesake, transition into finance if you want (cfa) or consulting sales etc through a mba.
I work at a T2 which pays 12LPA in bombay so not much. If you are in your 3rd year prepare for MBA. I THINK EVERYDAY THAT I SHOULD HAVE DONE ENGINEERING. I slog 12 hours minimum at that godforsaken office. And when I have time on some sundays I dont have anyone to hnagout with. I dont make plans because you never know when a client will cancel your plans. SO PLEZ start thinking about other routes - LAW FIRMS ARE black holes they suck life out of you.
Think about the larger picture. Also, doing what you love (and getting paid decently for it) is better than any amount of money, you will be able to do something for a longer period of time if you like/love it.
First, this is NOT a βmid-lifeβ crisis. This is some random youngster disillusionment that even tier-1 NLU folks go through during law school. Stop with this boring self-victimisation. Youβre not that special. You wouldnβt have been some god if you did engineering, with all due respect.
Second, it also depends on the NLU/law school you are at, the top 5-6 NLUs have good quality students and professors (especially the top 3 of NLS, NLUD and NALSAR, maybe NUJS too) that actually make the law interesting to study. That broadens your thinking much more than some Kota engineering kid will ever have.
Fellow law student here .. i feel you brother.. even i feel like this has been a big mistake I'm doing okay .. doing an assessment internship at a T2 right now.. highly likely of getting ppo too but anyway who cares at the end I'll be getting 6-8 LPA only that too after soo much struggle and long working ours while my engg. friends are already making double of me while working less hours than me.. some have even gone abroad, being a lawyer I can't do that also so it sucks .. I'm trying to find a way out to be honest because I'm not satisfied with what this field is offering.
If you're are academically much smarter than them, as you claim, crack UPSC CSE then! You have two years, start coaching and crack it within a year of graduating. It will, in a weird sadistic way prove to people around you that you're really smart, and the money you seek is unlimited as a civil servant. If not, then as trend, do an MBA. Also, I'm 32 and I still don't have a mid-life crisis, si what the F are you on about ? Shut up and start studying, whether UPSC or MBA. Soft tofu !
Also you are 20, mid life kya quater life crisis ka bhi time nahi hai, cheer up buddy
