As a lawyer the only impact that you can make is get into litigation at the local level and MC Mehta that shiz. If you're interested go to special states like Himachal, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura to challenge govt backed projects of corporates that are harming the environment. Whether you like it or not, corporate firms are not doing much for the environmental. On the contrary if you're representing a corporate than definitely it's the encroacher.
Another option is, if you have the age & degree, join the Indian Forest Services. Plenty of posts in the service. However, hard to get in without science, and that it's a competitive exam.
The last would be read, research and find a topic in the environment that you're really passionate about. Example water or waste management is a pressing issue. And then become an activist. Join an NGO or an iNGO and work upwards.
Lastly, join politics and become the environment minister. But even that is now more corporate friendly and less environmental.
Personally, the most change that you can do is in the local level, and unfortunately whether we like to accept it or not, being corporate slaves we prefer our luxurious life than to struggle in the field with bare minimum wages.
I want to switch fields from being a corporate lawyer to doing something for the environment and addressing climate change. Not looking to practice in environmental law. What could be possible career paths?
