As an A0, I am aware that we do not bother much about getting clients/ getting business/ poaching clients to/ for our Firm. However, have always been super intrigued to know how does it work.
Could anyone who has any idea about the same, elucidate a little and provide some real life experiences of the above?
Sleeping, partying with clients maybe. Have seen some partners under heat from firms bootlicking clients, GC etc. Sometime in transactions where you thrash the opposite left, right and center then the loosing client may approach you for future purposes. But to be honest, everyone wants to work with a confidant, so reference and stuff like that also helps. Then, the business development team of the firm works day and night sending legal memorandum, articles and responses to companies which are prepared by associates and partners. But to be honest, big names in the field brings big clients. Everything works on reference and source.
How do you have a βlosing clientβ in a transaction? Is the legal aspect in a transaction not secondary to the business aspect of it, how do you as a lawyer βthrash the oppositeβ here?
