How much do M&A lawyers contribute to deal structuring or decision making in general, in a transaction, compared to an investment banker? Do they merely find solutions to non-compliances to any of the several applicable laws, or do they participate in figuring out what is the best method to do a deal from a business perspective as well?

It would be great if someone could give an elaborate answer. Thanks in advance!

This is not true. It takes a lot of time to understand the nuances if you include securities law, competition law, fema, stamp, etc on top of the companies act. Someone has to do the transaction documents. And it takes persistence to do it on a day to day basis. Yes, many people can do it. Even doctors do the same couple of things on a day to day basis. It becomes mundane. There are sometimes complications. It would only make things easier if opposite lawyers don't insist on standard clauses defence to start off, one sided document. Then things would be easier.
