Do internships/assessment internships/traineeship whatever you get. And keep applying simultaneosly for higher positions. Needless to say, this must be according to your interest area(s), which should be reflected in your CV. But it is possible that you may slog without an Associate tag for even 6-8 months. Market conditions are that bad. However, it is also possible that you get hired just within 2 months after you join as an intern/assessment intern.
So it's all your efforts and luck that will matter. The only thing you need to avoid is sitting idle and waiting for acceptance of your job application. Do whatever you may get. All the best.
