Today stray dogs led to the death of a prominent business scion in Ahmedabad. This menace affects people across all strata of society. Yet kukkur premis recklessly keep feeding strays, arguing and hindering efforts at population control. Most likely, they will blame the victim here and say there was no need to venture out of the house.
One outcome of this incident will be that there will be increased visibility about the issue which is sadly never provided or shouted down when the victims are poor kids. Meanwhile, the judiciary who stay cocooned in their privileged life and spaces, keep furthering this menace. An immediate and humane solution to this menace is needed. The dog problem is real. And the balance between rights of animals and humans is hard to maintain sometimes. Recently, the VC went to the Orissa HC to get the order from the Chancellor to remove the dogs from the campus who were posing a serious threat to one student with disability.

One particular dog that arrived on campus a few days later began chasing people. Things were still manageable; it was just one dog, and people tried to avoid it. Last semester, there were puppies, and for the most part, they were harmless. This semester, however, the dogs have grown up and started acting aggressively. It's become challenging for people to walk around campus because you never know when you might be chased by a group of dogs. Many people have been bitten, and many more have had close encounters. The issue of dogs defecating and urinating in the academic block and hostels is a major problem, but it's just one of the issues. The safety of students is at risk, and therefore, we hope that something will be done about the dogs.
Until now, nobody wanted the dogs to be removed because they didn't pose any problems. However, with each passing day, new problems are arising. People are actually getting bitten, and it's not just a one-time incident. Calling those people wishing to have a bare minimum livable life on campus "inhumane" is just not done.
That's a reasonable expectation. People who really love those dogs can try to do this together. It's for the benefit of the dogs only. At my NLU, that is how things happen for the most part, though we have only 4-5 dogs in the campus.

The guards have been lax, no 2 ways about it. From where I come our society has a strict safeguard to prevent random strays from entering the apartment complex and remain outside only. Just want to address the concerns of hygiene and safety, I am a student of NLUJ, our freshers party was yesterday, half of the students were drunk, and there is vomit in most of the sinks in the washrooms and shared spaces, the hallways and this happens a lot on weekends. There have been drunk students assaulting other students.
