In yet another power-grabbing move, the BJP has got a bill passed that takes away the autonomy of the IIMs across the country, by giving the President management powers over all the institutes. Given that Presidents and Governors are appointed these days by the ruling party only and then go ahead to follow their policies, this move marks yet another grave blow on educational institutional autonomy by the politicians for their selfish agenda-driven end. There is no difference between this move and some of the states like Bengal trying to make the CM the Chancellor of state universities. If anything, this is worse, because the IIMs have been given considerable autonomy earlier and they have been doing well with that. All that this will do is for private universities run by cronies of politicians to flourish with their INI and IOE tags, which is what the politicians want in reality. Shame on the government! State government will probably follow suit for the NLUs too, if they are not doing so already.

There are plenty of public universities in the Western World. The cost of university education in the USA prevents many people to get higher education at all, or be burdened with crushing student debts. There are hundreds of private universities in this country operating in terrible state. So privatisation of education in India is hardly going to work. The checks and balances will go away and make businessmen run the places for profit without any care to the quality of education or the welfare and interest of students.
Yes, but so is Appalachian School of Law, Concordia, and Widener Commonwealth University. Oxford, Cambridge, NUS, UC Berkeley, UCLA, LSE, ANU, KCL, UCL, UToronto are all public. What is your point?
The typical Right Wing trolls who infest this platform now will soon start downvoting this, despite it being a very valid concern voiced by the OP.
Damn this is a very valid concern considering NLUs would no longer be the thinktanks they are or RATHER the think tanks they should. Law school should be the place of independent political thought for the same.

If ya all vote, which I think most of us would be in the voting age, dont vote for Godi government.
